The attack on Pearl Harbor occurred on December 7, 1941.

After the attack, it is believed that Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto remarked,

"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

And he was right.

Before WWII, Portugal had a larger military than the U.S.

After WWII, the U.S. emerged as a global superpower.

The wake of Pearl Harbor left the world with the largest military ever seen.
