I’ve been training a dog for the last 6 months.
and she has two leashes.
the first, is a short slip leash.
she stays right by my side, sits when I stop and walks when I say, ‘with me.’
the second is a 20-ft-long check cord.
she’s does what she wants on this leash unless she gets too far off the path.
honestly, I hate the short leash.
it’s a lot of work for me and for her.
no one is having fun.
the check cord is better.
she knows where we are going and guides the way.
I only intervene when required—sometimes not at all.
I’d love to have no leash at all.
but that will require much of me.
and a lot of trust in her.
training, trust, and time—bonds that free us both.
good leaders want autonomy, not control.
try harder,
