savor the moments (parenting + business in balance)
this week, I just want to share where my heads been lately: parenting.
hey friend,
this week, I just want to share where my heads been lately: parenting.
whether you’re a parent, or not, I hope these words land with one takeaway: balance is real. I don’t care who says otherwise.
if your kids are younger than mine (12, 10, and 6), I didn’t get it for a long time, but I do now.
soccer games, school assemblies, middle-of-the-night wake-ups, late practices…
this is it.
the busy stuff we treat like chores today are the memories we’d kill to relive in 20 years.
I used to rush because we were “busy.”
now I savor because I know it’s fleeting.
as parents, we have this dual challenge:
raising a family while running businesses.
one feels like it’s always interrupting the other.
but the truth is, I only get to know Eleanor, the seven-year-old who loves dance and dogs, right now.
I only get to know Graham, the all-around athlete with the biggest heart, right now.
I only get to know William, the genius track star who’s ahead of his time, right now.
tomorrow, they’ll be someone new.
so I keep reminding myself:
I’m not just an entrepreneur.
I’m a father.
and it’s that intersection, business owner and parent, that shapes everything I do.
on paper, hustle culture says “go faster, do more.”
in reality, kids remind you to slow down.
and if you can strike that balance, grow your business while truly being present for your family, you’ll find a success that goes way beyond the bottom line.
to my kids: challenge me. force me to lead. keep me present.
because these tiny moments are significant parts of my life.
I’m handing you every piece of me I can.
if you’re like me, juggling ambitions, goals, and a family, hit reply and let me know what helps you slow down and soak it all in.
I’d love to hear how you’re handling the balance.
try harder,
JM
