boring. brutal. better.

10 rules that changed my game (so you can level up, too)

sometimes success means breaking rules you didn’t even know you were following.

hey friend,

sometimes success means breaking rules you didn’t even know you were following.
I’ve been at this for over a decade, tens of millions in revenue, multiple brands, big teams.
here are 10 of my “rules” for avoiding the usual pitfalls and scaling faster.

1. fail fast

don’t wait for next quarter or next year.
ideas rarely explode into $10k overnight; they might only net $1k.
that’s fine, just fail faster, learn faster, and keep moving.

2. quit thinking small

“I just want to make an extra $300/month” sounds fine as a baby step, but think bigger.
what’s your actual vision?
set your sights on something 10x larger.

3. get out of your own way

work on yourself or stay stuck.
nutrition, fitness, mindset, invest in these.
when you get better, your business follows.

4. first up, last down

I’m married, have 3 kids, and I want to lead by example.
be the one who sets the tone in your home (and team).
remember: you’re there to lead.

5. get clear on what you want

stop chasing someone else’s dream.
figure out your endgame, big or small, and reverse-engineer it.
then block out the noise.

6. be a marketer

being great at your craft isn’t enough.
people won’t buy if they don’t know you exist.
learn to sell your product.

7. never say “maybe”

indecision is poison.
decide yes or no, move on, and don’t look back.
fail fast, remember?

8. be a leader, not a savior

your job is to guide and grow your team, not “fix” them.
you can’t solve everyone’s personal issues.
focus on leading them to performance.

9. go deep, not wide

stop dabbling in 500 things.
pick a skill, email marketing, sales, whatever, and master it.
jack of all trades ends up master of none.

10. expand your threshold for control

let go of micromanaging.
delegate, trust your team, accept mistakes.
true freedom (time or financial) only comes when you’re not stuck controlling everything.

pick one, pick three, or go for all ten.
the point is to keep leveling up without letting your own habits choke your progress.
try them out, fail fast, and let me know how it goes.

try harder,

JM
