Building the Business:

Leaders Make Tough Decisions 🧠

Episode 132 of my podcast was, “Leaders Make Tough Decisions.” And if 11 minutes and 36 seconds of that podcast is too long for you, I also published a reel that summarizes it in less than a minute ⏱️

A few days after that podcast was published, headlines rolled in, “Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the head of the air force just days after an F-16 fighter jet crashed, resulting in the death of the pilot.”

And THAT is what I am talking about. The PRESIDENT fired the HEAD OF THE AIR FORCE for the death of a pilot. Do you think the head of the Air Force even knew that F-16 was flying that day?

Not likely.

Here’s a simple leadership framework:

  • As leaders, when there is a failure, it’s our fault - all the way to the top.
  • When there is a massive success, you give credit to the team.

That’s leadership.

Building the Human:

Discipline & Consistency 📆

I’ve been having some fun with content creation lately. Just yesterday I published another “dry sarcasm” video on what it takes to get fit.

I’ll summarize for you:

  • To get fit, one must eat healthy and exercise regularly.

Groundbreaking. I know 🤯

While I am fully stating the obvious, let’s get serious for a second. Yes, we need discipline and consistency.

But we don’t need perfection.

We need to keep the momentum going. For instance, last week I was running short on time, so I didn’t get to do the training I had planned…

A bit frustrated, I almost did nothing. The mentality of, “Well, if I can’t do what I want, I’ll do nothing at all…” I know, I’m so mature…

Have you ever done that? I.e. if you can’t be perfect… you do nothing… THE WORST OF ALL OPTIONS.

Luckily, I had a moment of clarity. I did 10 sets of 10 pull-ups and called it a day. Not what I wanted to do. Not what I had planned. Not what I needed to do (I’m training for a HYROX race).
But it’s what I did. And I am glad I did it.

I challenge you this week to DO SOMETHING in the place of nothing - if you find yourself having to make that choice.

Try Harder:

Quote of the Week 🎩

The quote I’ve been thinking about this week comes from one of my favorite business dudes, Andrew Carnegie.

“As I grow older, I pay less attention to what men say. I watch what they do.”

Words will get attention. Actions will earn respect.

I remind myself constantly that I can’t tell my kids how they should live. I just need to live and let them watch.

That reminder puts a chill down my spine. And it should.

I want to earn their respect and live to a standard that hopefully they want to emulate.

I’ll keep trying hard. How about you?

Try harder,

JM
