Building the Business:
The Million Dollar Website Tweak 🔧
How do you build a website that will guarantee you get customers?
I can give you one simple tweak to your website that will generate more revenue for you. I’m not selling you anything; I have actually tracked over $1M in revenue for the companies I am involved in from this one tweak. I mean, I have actually tracked it. This is no estimation.
Years ago, I attended a marketing conference, and one speaker talked about website conversion rate optimization.
Yet, people always want me to tell them what’s wrong with their site. And they are always shocked when I ask questions like:
- How much traffic do you get?
- How much traffic converts to a lead or customer?
- Where does the traffic come from?
Then, when they track it all down, they may even have a DECENT conversion rate. So I tell them the site isn’t broken, they have a traffic problem, not a conversion problem.
So Lesson #1 - Know your problem before you pursue solutions.
Anyway, back to that marketing conference. I was furiously taking notes. Then, he got to the final slide of the presentation and called everyone out.
BOOM! A man from my own heart was calling people out for their lack of taking action. I was EVEN MORE intrigued.
So do this one thing, and you should see an immediate bump in conversion.
The One Tweak
A button in the top right-hand corner of your website.
What this button should do is different for every business.
- Book a call
- Sign up / start free trial
- Buy now
- Apply / get started
Most website owners make it too hard to find out how to do business with you. They don’t want to read your whole site. They don’t want to scroll forever.
They want to solve their problem. Some people have been referred to you, and they are already SOLD. They need the button to click to sign up, pay, book a call, etc.
If you make this hard for them, you will lose them.
Again, not groundbreaking. But if you don’t have it, add it. If you already have it, GOOD. Now, go get more traffic to your site.
Takeaways:
- Do you have a traffic problem or a conversion problem?
- Put a button in the top right corner of your site.
Building the Human:
Productivity Tomatoes 🍅
Whenever there is a new product I am about to introduce, my productivity starts to wane. So today, let me introduce you to the productivity hack that has saved me more times than I can count, the Pomodoro Technique.
Francesco Cirillo was just another student drowning in distractions. He grabbed a tomato-shaped kitchen timer and started working in 25-minute focused sprints. He named the system after the timer (“pomodoro” = tomato in Italian).
How it works:
- Pick a task, set a timer for 25 minutes, and go at it.
- No excuses, no TikTok or Instagram, just work.
- When the timer rings, take a 5-minute break.
- Stretch, hydrate, whatever. Then go again.
- After 4 pomodoros, take a longer break (15-30 min).
Your brain works better when it knows a break is coming, and it isn’t being asked to grind for 8 hours straight.
Studies suggest that frequent breaks enhance mental agility. But don’t take my word for it. Try it.
Are you ready to stop spinning your wheels and start owning your time? Or are you too busy watching your day disappear? Set that timer, and prove me wrong.
Try Harder:
Sun Tzu, Know Yourself 🥷
Today, you get to meet Sun Tzu, an ancient Chinese military strategist whose words still hit harder than most leadership podcasts.
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.”
Translation? Get your act together, understand what you’re up against, and you’ll win more often than not.
And no, not knowing how to make a decent cup of coffee doesn’t count as “knowing the enemy.” Your real enemy in business and in life is usually internal.
Could be your procrastination, your outdated skills, maybe even your fear of public speaking. Whatever it is, identify it. Study it. If Sun Tzu had access to all the data analytics we have now, he’d be eating us all alive.
Dive deep. Do the homework. Understand your battleground, and equip yourself to come out on top. After all, fear only hits hard when you don’t know what you’re fighting.
Now go out there, get to know your real challenges, and tackle them head-on. Let your effort do the talking.
Try harder,
JM
