  2. why now. performance optimization used to be reserved for elite athletes. measuring HRV required a cardiology lab. now it’s a 200 dollar ring on your finger. the technology democratized the data. every regular human is now interested in being better at how they show up. the demand for performance professionals quietly exploded.

introduction to the concept of a performance professional

The most impactful business is the business that genuinely improves another human, a better human business. And to grow a business like this, you have to continually improve yourself. This podcast is a documentation of that thesis, scaling businesses and also personal growth. My goal is for you to shortcut this journey.

So if you’re ready to try hard, subscribe, if you like what you’re hearing, please share and enjoy. All right. What is a performance professional? This is the better human business podcast. I’m Jerred Moon. And if you got my newsletter several weeks back, I mentioned how I am going to be starting an online community for performance professional.

That’s kind of the term we have decided on calling it performance professional, as opposed to the try harder community or the better human business community. Something along those lines, I always feel like what I do is better human business. That is the umbrella to everything I do. But when it comes down to, and you know, this is kind of like behind the scenes, like backstage stuff.

explanation of how the term applies to various professional fields and its evolution

When it comes to marketing a message or building a community, especially if that’s going to be paid or have paid offerings, being generic is hard, okay? Being generic is hard. And I don’t want to be generic. I want to be very specific. And the term I landed on is performance professional. And so that’s what we’re, you know, when I launched this community in the next couple of weeks, that is who we’re looking to help.

But I wanted to talk a little bit more about the term today. And if you didn’t know about that community, I’ll pause right there. If you didn’t know about that community, you haven’t heard about it, go to my personal website, Jerred.com, J-E-R-R-E-D.com and sign up for the newsletter. Should be pretty easy to find on there.

Sign up for the newsletter. You’ll be a part of the newsletter. And once you’re part of the newsletter, you will definitely hear about when the performance professional community opens up. So go do that right now, right now, right now, like right now. And there’s normally a link even in the notes, show notes of every single of these podcasts to go click to my website.

invitation to join the new online community and how to stay updated

So you can go enter in your name and email address and so you can be caught up with all that we’re doing. So anyway, getting back to the performance professional, I want to talk about the concept, the idea, and I’m not going to get into the community as much in exactly what I’m offering, but I want to talk about whether or not you resonate with being a performance professional.

You know, if you look through kind of the history of performance optimization, all these kind of things, it was once only really reserved for, I don’t even want to say high income. It was more like high income plus, you know, elite athlete type people. And if we’re talking about doing cold plunges or trying to optimize, you know, processing speed for your brain or optimizing recovery strategies, sleeping better, all these kind of things, you only ever heard about it in the context of athletes trying to optimize their performance.

But over the last decade, maybe even as far as two decades, that might be a stretch, definitely probably a decade and a half, 15 years. It’s really taken off because everyone can see that if you can optimize things and increase your performance, you are going to be better at basically everything. And I’m talking about not the performance professional, just down to any human out there.

closing thoughts on the importance of embracing a performance-focused mindset in personal and professional life

If they’re optimizing their performance, they are going to be better. If you’re optimizing your sleep and your fitness and your nutrition, all of these things, you know, all these things are going towards optimal. What’s happening is you are then able to be better at everything. You’re better at your job, you’re a better spouse, you’re better parents, you’re a better employee.

You’re better at everything when you start to optimize your performance and economies of scale. All these things are getting more affordable and easier to do, right? Or measuring HRV, I would say even 15 years ago, was a crazy thing that only really weird athletes did and medical doctors, like cardiologists, like those were like the only two people because it was very difficult.

And I don’t want to say difficult, more cumbersome, right? You had to go wear all these diodes and clips and then they would measure for a set amount of time and then you’d have your HRV. And then interpreting that data, it was basically impossible unless you were a cardiologist or you had some software you could upload it to, right?

That’s just HRV in the last 15 years. Now everything tracks your HRV. So just think about how far wearables have come from things like the Oura Ring to Whoop to Garmin. They’re all these things that are just helping people increase performance, get more sleep. They’re starting to give suggestions. This is only going to get crazier.

And I’m all, I’m here for it. I love where the direction is going from a health perspective and AI and the technology like implications that we have there. That’s all going to be awesome. So anyway, performance in the, at the individual level, the desire for performance has shot up significantly over the last decade, decade and a half.

Like everyone’s interested to some degree to like in optimizing their performance, right? You know, it’s on the Apple watch how to do it, right? Like the people are interested in how to do these things, but it’s hard to go do by yourself. It really is hard to go do by yourself. And so where I’m not as scared of AI, you know, like people talk about, was AI going to take my job?

Well, yeah, they could give a perfect nutrition plan. They can give a perfect fitness or strength plan. They could give a plan of care for a specific injury, right? They can do almost anything. No matter what you think, if you’re like, no, they couldn’t do my job, give it time. They will be able to do your job.

But what a robot or AI is doing is they are saying, I like, I go to AI and I’m like, hey, I have problem A and I need to get to B, which is being this problem solved. So how do I get from A to B? And then AI will give you the perfect response of, well, here’s you get, here’s how you get from A to B. And I’m like, okay, cool.

But that’s never helped human beings ever is just knowing how to do something. We know how to do everything, right? Humans know how to do basically everything. Like same with growing a business, like the true power in like our PT biz mastermind is not, you know, it’s one of my main businesses is not, oh, it’s all of the educational resources.

Those are helpful, but those are A to B. This is how you do the specific thing. You might need that tactic, but where do you actually need help? It’s the journey getting from A to B. It’s that journey that actually helps people there. It’s the other people. It’s us being there, helping them through that, answering their questions, right?

It’s the other community members, holding them accountable, those kinds of things. I’m not here to sell the mastermind at all, but what I’m saying is knowing how to get from A to B is cool, but it’s helping people in that process. And that is where a performance professional comes in. So people are trying to optimize their performance.

If you can help someone along that journey, like they have decided, A, I want to optimize my performance. I want to become a more optimal human being. I want to move how I should. I want to feel how I should. I want to eat what I should. I want to exercise how I should, all these kinds of things. They’ve made that decision.

That’s A. B is success of that thing. If you fit anywhere in that spectrum of, well, I help people along that journey, you are a performance professional. And it fits in a lot of different categories. It really, really does. Because that can be optimization on so many different levels, like physical therapists fit into this category, chiropractors fit into this category, athletic trainers, even mental therapists, performance coaches, mental performance coaches.

There are a lot of different things. But the performance idea is what I’m trying to get into the most is I can’t help or resonate with somebody as much as going to like a mental type therapy. If you have significant issues from your upbringing or trauma, I wouldn’t say that a therapist in that regard is getting you to performance level.

They are like fixing a past problem. It’s the same with somebody going into an emergency room from a car accident. Just because a emergency room doc or surgeon is like putting you back together doesn’t make them a performance professional. They’re just getting you to, they’re getting you to A, right?

They’re ready to perform. And so that’s the difference here between all other professionals and a performance professional in this regard is there are a lot of professionals who are just helping people become A, ready to focus on performance. And there might be a lot of things that have to be fixed or corrected or whatever.

And hopefully my examples kind of landed there. It’s like an emergency room doc is not necessarily optimizing your performance. They’re just helping you get back to baseline, right? So there’s baseline. But then there’s performance where it’s I’m good here. Let’s go. I want to be better. I want to be optimal.

Now we’re in the performance professional realm. So that’s the first thing. If you think that’s you, then you’re a performance professional. Like I’m not going to cut it off as, oh, well, you don’t actually count. If you feel like you’re in that category, then you are a performance professional. And because I resonate a lot with helping people with performance, performance in their business, performance in their lives, health, fitness, all these kinds of things mentally, like I’m all about those things, all performance in all ways.

The second thing I want people to resonate with as performance professional is our question you could answer is if you got into your current profession, but you’re not really, you didn’t get into your current profession to become this badass entrepreneur. Like I’ve met a lot of entrepreneurs over the years.

There are some entrepreneurs who are, they just want to be an entrepreneur. Like they don’t really care about anything else. They don’t care what they’re selling. It could be, it could be backpacks. It could be widgets. It could be pencils. It could be fitness training. They really could care less.

It could be real estate. They just want to be an entrepreneur. They will sell anything to make that happen. That is not a performance professional, right? If you want to do the profession that you’re doing and you don’t care as much about, well, that have to be an entrepreneur, that’s the only way.

I want to help those people because I think that you should probably be an entrepreneur and there’s a lot of opportunity for you there, but it’s maybe not your main skillset. You’re not sitting around constantly like thinking like, what’s the best marketing strategy I could ever do? That’s not, you have to think about those things because you want your business to grow, but it’s not why you got into your profession.

Hopefully that makes sense. You know, for me, for an example, like I love studying fitness. I love studying programming, things of those nature. If I could spend a majority of my time on that, I absolutely would, but I have to spend a lot of time on the business to be able to make my passion a reality and making income for my family.

So my goal in the performance professional is to help who I want to help. If you are in any of those buckets that I’ve discussed, but also to save you that time that I was just talking about, it’s, I don’t want to have to be an expert in marketing or creating a funnel or learning sales scripts like we’re creating sales scripts.

I don’t want to have to be a professional. I don’t want to have to be an expert in any of those areas. I want to be an expert in my, my areas, but then I want to leverage your resources to become a better entrepreneur. That’s what I want the performance professional to do. I want it to shortcut that journey for people so they don’t have to focus so much on being this entrepreneur full-time and only thinking about marketing leads and sales, you know, and client success.

Like they, you want to focus on what you want to focus on and you want to learn and become best at your profession and then utilize resources like we’re going to have for you to be able to shortcut that process. So that is the performance professional. I wanted to hit everybody with that. If you resonate, awesome.

There’s a lot more. If it doesn’t resonate with you and you still listen to the podcast, Hey, as you know, if you’ve already been listening to the podcast, it’s not like things are changing around here. I talk about business. I talk about becoming a better human. I talk about personal development and growth and then yeah, a lot about business and growing that.

Nothing’s really changing here. Content wise. It’s just whether or not you want to be specifically in that community, whether you’d be a good fit or not be a good fit. Otherwise, all are welcome here at the better human business podcast. If you are a human, you want to get better yourself or you want to build a better human business.

You are welcome to the content, but that’s it for this one. Remember, try harder.
